Alternative Energy is Here, but Communities Aren't Ready for It. |
 |
|
We have clean energy solutions available for mobilization -- yet in many of today's cities and towns, revamping building heating and cooling systems, reorganizing streetscapes, and the like require more energy and resources than people are willing or able to commit. Biking, for example, would be a more appealing alternative if residents had bike lanes where they felt safe driving to work, and walking could sway some suburbanites if they could actually get to the grocery store with their feet. Homeowners might want to "go green," but they may find they lack the time and money to invest in alternative energy unless it's available through a simple flip of a switch or phone call to a power company.
