I would like to see a high capacity capacitor bank that would instantly charge and carry enough electricity for a 100 miles while there is some signs this may be possible it seems that we are stuck with batteries.
I envision a replacement for gas stations where they replace a standard battery pack by robotic arms that come up check to see the condition of the battery open a slot pull the old battery pack out and insert a new one in about as much time as it takes to fill your gas tank now. At the rear end of the vehicle would be a slot with a cover very much like the slot for cds on a computer only much larger inside is the battery pack of cells high impact plastic it slides out and is carried to a recharging rack in the station and a fresh battery is installed as long as it good. The station then charges the packs over night off peak hours at the best rate and means,
Just as cd players are standardized this system would have to be too. While the size of the vehicle or distance from the ground might be different the packs and the slots would be the same so that the robot arm can sense where the opening of the slot is.
The packs would be more like an old 8 track tape than a cd. In trucks and larger vehicles you would have stacked compartments so you could increase the amperage or voltage as needed.
You could then go on long trips in an electric car or truck and not have to wait for a lengthy re-charge.
The USA must free itself from Oil dependence and this would expedite the solution with the all ready mandated coarse of a greener energy grid.
