Green Building Services, Inc. provides an excellent example of green brownfields redevelopment. The company helped remodel the old Portland Armory, now home to theater group Portland Center Stage. Green touches were incorporated in all aspects of planning and design: bicycle storage is available, toilets flush with harvested rainwater, and the building itself uses 30 percent less energy than would a similar building, even designed to code. Such an example suggests brownfields as prime candidates for the starting the wave of green development to be expected in the next decade or so.
