Ombudsmen

North Dakota has established a State Long Term Care Ombudsman Program, in which Americorps VISTA members take charge of establishing a community support base that can advocate for seniors' needs. VISTA volunteers train these community ombudsmen to deal with special issues that confront seniors citizens and recognize problems that may linger below the surface. Advocates ensure seniors receive everything from adequate nutrition to the more complicated support necessary to create living wills and other vital documents.
