Innovative Solution for:

Lack of peace for Israel, Palestine, Gaza, West Bank

Exodus for Peace

This idea is based on the premise proposed by me in the first Comment, dated 1/1/2009, that the fundamentalists of both sides are the source and momentum of the problem and that reasonable people can solve this problem but unreasonable people are the barrier.

One solution, then, is for both parties to sacrifice their fundamentalism and the people who promote it. Such an act would have the immediate potential for not only solving this problem, it may also demonstrate to all reasonable people the nature and danger of fundamentalism in all its faces.

Specifically, one of the parties, either the Israelis or the Palestinians, voluntarily announces that it plans to depart from the region and makes arrangements to move to another part of the world.

They then begin negotiations to find a place where they will be accepted, buy the land, and move to become citizens of their new host country.

The very act of beginning such negotiations for a move may have the following effects: Hostilities no longer have credibility. The other side could be stunned, even shamed into assiting the departing residents. The non-fanatic majority no longer supports or is associated with random acts of violence or retaliation that may follow. The fundamentalists are isolated.

Now it will be clear to the world that those desiring peace recognize that elements of their own people are the cause of our troubles.

The fundamentalists within the departing side can either join the Exodus for Peace or be left out of the departure.

Simply floating this idea could have a positive impact on the situation. In the first place, it offers incredible hope and vindication for the remaining side.

It offers an incredible worldwide prestige and stature to the departing side but not without serious challenges. However, these challenges come with some built-in strategic benefits:

If the fundamentalist withing the departing side try to prevent the move, sabotage it, they will become the an easily identified pariah among their own people.

If the most fanatic refuse to go and choose stay behind, they become a sacrifice of their own people. But as stated in the premise, they are the problem.
