Substance abuse by physicians

Self policing

Implement a peer counseling and policing program for doctors. They would receive mandatory training while in residency on how to confront a colleague when abuse was suspected. They would be taught how to spot the warning signs, and how to approach their colleague. The confronter and the abuser would both be given immunity as far as their job security, provided the abuser attended an on campus treatment program. The program could be done confidentially. If treated successfully, the occurrence would be removed from the former abuser’s record.
