Dean Kamen is a pretty smart guy. You might remember him from the Segway transport device. He has a new idea for a water purification device called the Slingshot that sounds like something out of science-fiction. The Slingshot can take any water, even polluted water and turn it into drinking water via vapor compression distillation. This process requires no filters and the system is extremely energy efficient. Combined with a very minimal amount of solar power the Slingshot would be a great way to handle water desalination.
