Volunteer Lifelines

A number of communities in the United States offer services in which volunteers phone to check up on seniors on a regular basis. If concerns arise, volunteers may come to seniors' aid in person or simply connect with family members or more knowledgeable personnel.

The benefit of this approach is that it allows seniors to preserve their independence while gaining extra lifelines of support - without paying a dime. In some cases, younger adults with disabilities are also eligible for these programs.
