It's not much money -- some AmeriCorps members even resort to public benefits -- but AmeriCorps does provide a basic living stipend for "volunteers" working with domestic non-profit organizations. The federally funded organization is charged with fighting poverty and is sometimes referred to as the "domestic PeaceCorps."
