Known Solution for:

Disposal of Nuclear Waste

Deep Geological disposal in plutonic rock

The Canadian Concept is the disposal of high level nuclear waste in the plutonic rock of the Canadian Shield. This concept was deemed technologically feasible by the Seaborn Panel following National Hearings in 1996-1998. The basic safety of the system is based primarily on extremely slow rates of radionuclide diffusion in systems where groundwater is stagnant.
