Pre-planning - the teacher or group needs to identify the key objectives that they are after and most importantly the climate that is necessary to support and create those objectives.

A list of agreements needs to be drafted that outline the optimal behaviors necessary to create the climate that will actualize the stated objectives.

The students get a copy of each of the agreements. The teacher goes over each agreement one by one. The teacher asks if there is any unclarity. The teacher facilitates getting the student/students clear about the meaning of the agreement.

Each student is required to answer yes to each agreement. This is the by-in. If the student refuses to buy into the agreement an alternative environment needs to be created for that student. ( New classroom, teacher, etc.)

When and if an agreement is violated, the teacher immediately and respectfully acknowledges the broken agreement and gets a re-affirmed commitment from the student who hasn't honored the agreement that they made.

This creates adult to adult relationships and a clear, experientially rich learning environment that is founded on mutual respect.
