Water pollution caused by manure from factory farms

solar dehydrator and methane collector

Most manure waste is in a liquid state when discharged from livestock areas. The idea here is to extract the water before it can flow into the environment, and to recover or store the solid waste. I propose a large greenhouse-like solar dehydrator with a slanted clear plastic or glass roof. Solar heating would evaporate the water which would flow down the sides of the glass roof to be drained off as clean distilled water. Methane gas would be drawn off at the peak of glass roof. Once dehydrated, the solid waste could be burned, buried, or used as fertilizer.
