Buy Foods from Local Farmers

We, as the consumer, can drive down the need for pesticides. We can do this through our shopping preferences.

Many towns and cities offer local farmers markets where you can shop for foods that are grown locally and without pesticides. If the chain grocery store is losing sales to the farmers market, eventually the word will get back to the corporations that people don't necessarily want pesticides.

Is it worth waking up at 9am Saturday morning to head over to the farmer's market, as opposed to the convenience of your local Super-Walmart? Yes, indeed! Websites like Local Harvest will provide you with a directory of locally grown organic choices in your area.

Another plus side to shopping locally for organic foods is that by not traveling long distances to get to you, your food will retain more of its nutrition. Why get your blueberries from New Zealand when they are available right in your own town?
