Use Firm Bed Materials

While the causes of SIDS is still somewhat debatable in the medical community, one thing that parents can do is be sure that the baby's bedding is very firm. Things like foam cushions, bean bags, and water beds should be avoided. With firm bedding materials, there is less material that could possible obstruct the baby's ability to breathe during the night.
