Fossil fuels such as petroleum are a finite resource. As demand for these fuels continues to increase exponentially, availability of these resources is becoming more and more limited. For this reason, along with a variety of environmental and economic considerations, it is essential that increased investment be made in renewable energy sources. Wind power, solar power and biologically-based fuels are just a few of the technologies that hold promise. From a strictly short term economic standpoint, building the infrastructure to accommodate renewable resources appears to be costly. However, the depletion of fossil fuels at a rapid rate, along with the environmental damage caused by these sources of energy, generates an ever-increasing urgency for the implementation of renewable energy technologies.
