While research into the nature of the AIDS virus has yielded results providing for ever-increasing longevity for those who are HIV positive, a cure is still not yet in sight. However, research has also demonstrated the effectiveness of a variety of preventative measures. It is essential that the search for a cure continue. Equally important, however, is increased public awareness and education regarding HIV and AIDS. Simple yet effective methods of prevention such as the use of condoms, universal precautions when working around blood, and a reduction in needle-sharing among users of IV drugs will serve to reduce the spread of this disease.
