Substance abuse by physicians

Monitoring of Samples Delivered to Medical Practices

There is evidence to suggest that physicians commonly use samples provided by pharmaceutical companies on themselves. Access to drugs is relatively easy for physicians, and is made easier by drug companies who commonly provide medical practitioners with samples in the hope that they will write more prescriptions for the drug. There is a need for increased regulation covering the distribution of samples. Such regulations would serve to protect physicians, nurses, and their families from the perils of addiction.
