The use of marijuana is surrounded by a veil of romanticism and foggy myth. While it may certainly be stated that it does not have the immediate risks associated with harder drugs such as heroin or cocaine, there are long-term health consequences to consider. Among these are the potential for mental illness, cancer, heart disease and respiratory problems. This list does not even address the strain placed upon interpersonal relationships, occupational pursuits and social functioning by regular use of marijuana. It is essential that public education cut through the romanticism with statements of fact.
