Statement of Intent

Mentally ill individuals, because they may find themselves in circumstances in which they are being forcibly detained in a treatment setting, must take special care to insure their rights regarding their preferences in treatment and in treatment settings. This must be done during a period when they are not symptomatic, and should be witnessed. The official statement of intent regarding treatment, made during a period of mental stability, becomes the guiding document for treatment received during periods of instability.
