Suicide

Future Orientation

One of the factors indicating that someone is at risk for suicide is his or her loss of future orientation. This means that the person no longer has hope, and sees no potential future that will alleviate the distress he or she is feeling in the present. A significant part of suicide prevention efforts is to help suicidal individuals to regain their focus on the future. In so doing, they are able to regain hope and develop the skills for coping with their current stressors.
