One of the protectionism of property rights in the United States is the export compliance laws. These laws are in place that prevents technology or information from being sent to other countries. When sharing confidential corporate information to an oversees site, you must clear it with the export compliance department inside government. This is one of the tools that prevents technology or information from getting into the hands of businesses that would infiringe on copyrights.
