Device and Method for Impulse Transmission and Reception Coping with Multipath Propagation, Different Types of Interference and Low Snr

A transmitter for generating a pulse train and for transmitting said pulse train, the transmitter being adapted to generate (1) the pulse train, to modulate (2) the pulse train with respect to the amplitude and/or position of its individual impulses, to spread (3), preferably to multiply, the pulse train with a predefined spreading sequence (3a), to shape (4) the individual impulses of the pulse train so that they have a frequency spectrum in a predefined frequency range and/or a frequency spectrum fulfilling a predefined spectral mask, and to transmit (5) the generated, modulated, spread and shaped pulse train to a receiver, wherein the transmitter is adapted to generate and to transmit, seen in time domain, the individual impulses of the pulse train with an impulse duration which is shorter than the chip interval, the chip interval being the reciprocal of the chip rate, the latter being the number of impulses per second in the pulse train.
