Ambulatory Health Monitor

The Ambulatory Health Monitor is a miniaturized, self-programmable, stand-alone device that logs changes in various physiological parameters over extended periods of time. The data collected by the monitor can be easily downloaded to a remote device.

With the proper sensors, the monitor can collect and store an athlete’s skin temperature, pulse rate, and blood pressure during training. This ambulatory health monitor collects data continuously so that an athlete would not need to interrupt training in order to utilize fingertip sensors on a watch monitor. This monitor is part of a flexible band adapted to fit around the finger of the athlete, which is an improvement over uncomfortable, heavy chest straps. The original application of this health monitor was for the diagnosis of Raynaud’s Syndrome (RS), a circulatory disorder which causes the narrowing of blood vessels in fingers in response to cold temperatures. The device is currently being used to measure and record finger surface skin temperature of RS patients. Other potential medical applications of temperature monitoring using this device include the monitoring of ovulation, heart health, and breast tissue.
