HXR9 peptide acting to block HOX / PBX binding

The HOX genes are a family of homeodomain-containing transcription factors that determine the indetitity of cells and tissues during embryonic development, and are also known to be deregulated in a number of cancers. We use a novel antagonist (HXR9) that disrupts the interaction between HOX proteins and their co-factor PBX, and can induce apoptosis in a variety of aggressive, difficult to treat cancers. HXR9 has been tried in a number of cancer models in small mammals and looks promising.
