Open Innovation Department for Studio Used by The Beatles

November 18, 2015 By IdeaConnection

beatlesAbbey Road is one of the most famous music recording studios in the world, instantly recognizable to fans of the Beatles because it’s where they recorded most of their music.  It was also the name of the final album that the Fab Four recorded together (issued in 1969).

For more than 80 years the studio has been at the forefront of music technology and it hopes to keep it that way with the founding of an open innovation department.

Abbey Road Red is the name of the new open innovation department.  It is a place dedicated to music technology and innovation, where music tech start-ups, researchers and developers can harness the expertise and facilities at the studios through a music tech start-up incubation program.

Abbey Road Red will look at music-related technology beyond just the production side…We expect there will be opportunities beyond the Studios’ traditional music production role,” said Abbey Road managing director Isabel Garvey.

The studio says this program is unique in Europe, and has been designed to support the brightest music tech minds.

What’s Involved?

  • For start-ups and entrepreneurs there are mentors, advice, testing ground for products and access to facilities.
  • For researchers and developers, there’s the opportunity to investigate early stage emerging technologies and co-develop innovative solutions.

Entrepreneurs who are thinking of building a business around innovative technologies for music have until December 16th to apply for the incubation program, which starts in March next year.
