Canada's leading youth organisation with more than 100,000 members is turning to crowdsourcing to deepen engagement with, and enhance the innovation of its community.

Scouts Canada has teamed up with Ottawa-based IdeaVibes to launch a crowdsourcing platform called myscouts Innovation for new programs, and for novel ideas and concepts that will influence the organisation’s future direction.

The blog’s author discusses how technologies such as Web 2.0 tools have transformed the classroom but have not changed the way students learn.

They are still being taught in the time honoured tradition of teacher-led instruction whether in class or by teacher-created videos and interactive lessons that can be accessed at home. But there could be another way.

There are size-able carrots on offer for participants with €500,000 (approx. USD $628,000) for the winner to realise his or her business dreams, and €200,000 to one or two runners-up.

Final preparations are being made in Nairobi, Kenya ahead of next week’s Open Innovation Africa Summit (OIAS).

Tony Osborn from Vancouver is $5,000 richer after winning the 100 Mile House Ideas Competition; a global open innovation design contest that  took the 100-mile diet concept, and applied it to home building.

During the three month submission period ideas were sought for a home for four that  should  be  under 1,200 square feet and constructed out of materials or systems manufactured or recycled within 100 miles of the city of Vancouver, BC.

That was from Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders' opening statement at a U.S. Senate Subcommittee held last Tuesday to discuss his proposed "Prize Fund for HIV/AIDS Act", a $3 billion dollar prize pot that would reward drug companies for innovative new HIV drugs, offering an alternative to the long-term monopoly awarded under the current system.
