Crowd Creativity to Make a Fashion Statement at the 2012 Olympics

June 12, 2012 By IdeaConnection

Yes, you can pay design firms or artists big bucks to come up with a concept for your branding efforts, or you can follow the example of Uruguay’s Ministry of Tourism and Sport and tap the crowd for some ideas.

We all know that fans are passionate about their favorite sports, but can they be creative as well? That’s what the Ministry is hoping as it’s asking for fan-created images for a brand-new Olympic t-shirt.

In May it launched a Facebook app for fans to upload photos of blue skies. The color is not only prominent in Uruguay’s flag,  it’s also the national soccer team’s color.

At the time of writing this blog post (June 13th) 1,198 images have already been uploaded, taken from 619 different places in the world. If you visit the app’s Facebook page you can click on any image in the current t-shirt design to see it full size, and read a few notes from the person who took the snap.

A selection of the images will be included in the final t-shirt design, and these will be given to the Uruguayan delegation at the London 2012 Olympics. In addition 150 t-shirts will be given away to fans.
