Sci-fi Show Launches Crowdfunding Drive

December 13, 2011 By IdeaConnection

Isn’t it teeth-clenchingly annoying when TV networks cancel your favourite shows just when you get to the point of not being able to live without them? Network bosses are all powerful, more so than your remote,  but could a new crowdfunding initiative could be the start of the something big by putting TV shows into the hands of fans?

The television revolution is not going to happen overnight, but this could be where it starts to gain momentum. Some bright sparks at a new sci-fi web TV series called Immortal U have turned to the crowd for assistance with Episode 1 pre-production costs.

They have launched a campaign to raise $10,000 and are asking donors for $1 each with the hope that thousands will be attracted by only being tapped for a small sum.

So what’s the show going to be about? Fundamentally, it tracks humanity’s struggles in a decaying world.  According to the brains behind the show, Immortal U is “the timeless good vs. bad story line set within current global, social concerns. The condition of our food, water and soil greatly impacts our Earth as well as human health and spiritual evolution. Episode I sheds light on the silent dangers of fluoridated water and episode II tackles the globally insidious perils of GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms)”.

A trailer has also been released.

Program makers are hoping to reach their target by December 31st and each weekend before then a contributor will be drawn at random and asked to invent a name for one of the show’s characters.

If you want to make a donation and possibly become a part of  TV history, visit the campaign website here.
