New Network for Innovation Professionals

October 17, 2011 By Aminda

Co-creation professionals now have their own place in cyberspace to talk about the industry and build new business opportunities together. On October 6, the Co-Creation Forum launched a social network offering executives more opportunities to engage in dialogue with each other. Professionals can use the moderated private network to build regional chapters and networking groups, post news and messages, and send instant messages to other members, among other things.

Membership will be moderated to allow only qualified professionals to join, and all content will be private. Formally launched this past June, the Co-Creation Forum has grown quickly and now includes industry professionals from more than fifty different companies around the world. Its headquarters are inNorth America, and its members support best practices, inspiring innovation and leadership among co-creators.

The forum defines co-creation as “the act of involving consumers directly, and in some cases repeatedly, in the product creation or innovation process. Companies engage with consumers on initial product concepts and ideas, and they use consumers as a resource throughout the product development life cycle.” Companies do so by leveraging the powerful creative and truly engaged portion of the online community to power product and service innovation, strategy, and research. Think of it as part crowdsourcing, part conversational social media. Co-Creation is used for insight & research, to activate subsets of a community to unveil a consumer’s unmet needs, attitudes and expectations in regard to any part of the product life-cycle.

Because co-Creation involves every part of the corporate life-cycle from product/company inception through marketing and innovation, the site is open to a wide variety of professionals. From an entrepreneur looking for feedback on a new startup, a seasoned product manager at a Fortune 100 company, a market researcher, an advertiser, or a social media consultant, all are welcome to join the Co-Creation Forum to both learn and teach others about experiences with Co-Creation.
