IdeaConnection has earned a stellar reputation for solving complex problems for its clients, including Fortune 500 companies.  Therefore, it may not surprise you to learn that in addition to its existing portfolio of open innovation approaches, it is taking the paradigm to the next level.  With its new industry challenges service, IdeaConnection’s solvers will proactively tackle industry-specific roadblocks to scientific, technological and engineering advances in any field.

Smashing through Innovation Roadblocks

It is a highly ambitious enterprise.  The aim is to create a single hub where you will find hundreds of ingenious solutions.  These will be answers to roadblocks and bottlenecks that industry is working on.  And this service is launching now.

Experts from any field can submit to IdeaConnection’s website a science, technology or engineering challenge they want to see resolved.  It could be a way to increase the efficiency of solar panels, an antibiotic with a new mode of action or a replacement for polystyrene for packaging and insulation, one of our current challenges.  Read about it here.  Really, it can be absolutely anything from any industry where there is an obstruction that may be solved by scientists or engineers.

Once challenges are submitted, they are reviewed by IdeaConnection before being posted onto the site.  Then, virtual teams of experts from diverse background are brought together to work on the challenges.  They work on spec and only receive payment once their solutions are sold.  In addition, the person who submitted the challenge will receive $2,000 when the solution is sold.

When a challenge is solved, a provisional patent is put in place and the solution is published. The solution will then be marketed to the world.  When it’s inexpensive to make a prototype or a proof of concept IdeaConnection will do so.  In some cases people will have expressed interest in purchasing possible solutions and they will have the opportunity to do so before the solution is made public.

Where Start-ups can Shop for Ideas

One of the really exciting things about this service is that there is going to be a dedicated webpage of ideas for start-ups.  An often-asked question by entrepreneurs and investors is – how do you get good ideas for start-ups?  At IdeaConnection, a goal with these industry specific challenges is to have lots of solutions so start-ups can purchase those that they want to build a business around.

IdeaConnection believes that its new service is the next exciting departure for solving challenges via open innovation.
