With just ten days left to go until deadline, Tracy Jackson, the founder of iCelebrateDiversity.com is almost half way to raising her target of $10,000. That’s the amount she needs to manufacture one of her products, Diversity Jellybeans, candies that help stop stereotyping.
The company’s supplier recently went out of business leaving Jackson with a problem. She has to turn away orders because she doesn’t have enough capital to meet the manufacturer’s 10,000 pound minimum for custom jellybeans. So she looked to the crowdfunding site Indiegogo.com to raise the funds.
Diversity Jellybeans look like ordinary jellybeans, but there is a big difference. You could bite into a red jellybean for example and taste pineapple or sour apple or coconut or three other flavors.
“Like people, you can’t determine what is on the inside by simply looking at the outside, says Jackson”
The jellybeans are used by schools and corporations to discuss such serious issues as bullying, diversity, racism and stereotyping and have been used by an impressive roster of companies including Starbucks, Microsoft, Harvard, NASA, Toyota, Pepsi and Disney.
When Jackson’s suppliers closed their doors she purchased the rest of their inventory but now she’s almost out, and can only meet her new manufacturer’s minimum order requirements with the help of the public.
As an incentive to potential donors Jackson is offering a slew of rewards. The more money donated the bigger the reward and these include shout outs on social media sites, jellybeans, Picasso prints and discounts.
At the time of writing this post she has raised $4,879 and must amass $10,000 by July 9. If she doesn’t reach her goal she will receive nothing.
