Their job is now being made even easier with a crowdsourced fundraising tool called piggybackr.

The online platform was the brainchild of Andrea Lo.  She was inspired by her younger sister’s efforts to raise money to save the rainforests by selling bracelets.  Andrea wanted to help her sibling approach matters in a more business savvy fashion and set up a website for her fundraiser.

At the same time, she started to investigate why crowdsourcing had not yet reached children and their communities and how this could be changed.

Education

On piggybackr children can set up fundraising projects in minutes. There is a strong educational component to the site with tools, tips, videos and gamified tasks on how to be more effective at raising money.

Safety

Safety of course is of paramount concern and the site has a number of safety features.  Participating children under 13 must have their parents’ permission, and they are encouraged to work in teams.  The only information that is shown on a fundraiser’s page is their name, details of the project, and a related photo or video.

Projects

During its beta phase piggybackr has helped young children and student groups raise more than $250,000.  The projects currently being featured range from a student rowing team needing a new truck for travel to venues to a girl raising funds for a stem cell treatment.

Piggybackr charge a flat 5% + $0.30 transaction fee per donation you receive.
