Innovation for Innovation’s Sake

Innovation for innovation’s sake
Isn’t innovation and often a mistake

All of a sudden my cell phone stopped taking me directly to my voice mail messages. Now, instead of dialing in and entering my password, I have to enter another, two-digit code in order to hear my messages, along with another reminder that–guess what?–I’m about to hear my messages.

Our consumption, market-driven society makes a lot of things we don’t need, because somebody needs to make a profit. No problem. But somewhere, right now, there’s a committee of marketers furrowing their brows over how to “improve” something you and I use that works just fine.

The Leaf Blower Its shrill, ear-piercing wail has woken many morning idlers. “Get a rake!” I want to scream from my window. But my plea would fall on deaf ears.

The Segway Apologies to all its fans, but you need to get your fat butt down off that that waste of technology and move your legs! People who can’t walk, not included.

I could go on, but I’m sure you have a few you’d like to add. Or tell me I’m off base.
