466px-Mr_Pipo_Think_03_texrays.svgNewspapers, magazines, and websites are full of crowdsourcing and open innovation success stories.  An ever increasing number of companies are taking note of these and looking into whether and how the paradigm can help them to succeed.

One such company is Elmer’s, an Ohio-based firm that has been producing a variety of adhesives, arts and crafts, and educational products for more than 65 years.

It has just launched an open innovation web portal for fresh ideas and approaches to augment the skills and talents of its own R&D staff. The online space will be managed by technology broker yet2.com.

The new portal is seeking a variety of patented or patent-pending ideas from suppliers, consumers, and other potential collaborators.

“We know from past experience that there are companies and others out there with some great ideas that may not be realized due to resource constraints,” said Joe Wetli, director of innovation and new business development at Elmer’s.

“With the help of yet2.com’s logistical expertise, this portal will be a great way for us to actively welcome new ideas and evolve our brands through collaborative efforts.”

Submitting Ideas

To submit an idea, users will be asked to fill in a short form to include a non-confidential overview of the solution, and contact details. In the first instance the submission will be evaluated by yet2.com based on criteria provided by Elmer’s.

Once an idea has been submitted users will receive an email confirming submission. This is followed up within two working days with a call or email detailing the status of the submission – whether it’s been rejected or under further review.
