Open Innovation to Shape Vienna’s Future as a Tourist Destination

February 18, 2014 By IdeaConnection

800px-Karlskirche1The Vienna Tourist Board wants to put Vienna more firmly on the map by increasing the number of tourists to the beautiful city. So it is turning to the world for ideas through an open innovation competition.

Anyone, anywhere can take part whether or not you’ve actually been to the Austrian capital. There are prizes for the best ideas including an exclusive trip to the city. Not only are there prizes for the winners, but also for those who vote for them.

Tourism officials are looking for novel, unconventional and provocative proposals and the best ones will be incorporated into Vienna’s strategic planning.

Tourism for the Future

The open innovation contest is called “Now or never: Your idea for #Vienna2020” and it’s accepting ideas until March 18. Vienna 2020 is the city’s tourism strategy for the future.

Among the idea categories participants are being asked to think about are:

• Unconventional events
• New services
• Accommodation
• Meals
• Use of technology

Every contribution received can be voted on. The best-placed #Vienna2020 ideas will win, as will the voters who are drawn in the voter contest. Ideas will also be judged by the international “Vienna 2020” strategy advisory board.
