After more than 16 years heading up Procter and Gamble’s open innovation initiatives Jeff Weedman is stepping down from his role to serve as a P&G Executive on Loan.

His replacement is P&G veteran Laura Becker who will lead the multinational’s Global Business Development group that includes Connect+Develop’s open innovation work around the world. The company hopes it will usher in a new era that will accelerate its OI engagement to deliver novel products.

Connect+Develop has helped deliver some of P&G’s leading innovations, and is critical in helping us deliver on our renewed growth strategy moving forward – including a sharper focus on our 20 largest and most promising innovations,” said P&G CTO Bruce Brown.

“Connect+Develop has proven to be a winning strategy, with still more room for growth.”

Connect+Develop History

What started out as a test program has delivered impressive results for P+G as it has refined, expanded and reinvented Connect+Develop. Over the years it has worked with myriad external collaborators including small and large businesses and individual entrepreneurs to deliver breakthroughs in new business models, products and packaging.

Greatest Hits

Some of its greatest hits include technologies and innovations for such products as: Tide Total Care, Olay Smooth Finish, Febreze Set n Refresh, Bounce Drier Bars, Mr. Clean Magic Erasers and Swiffer Dusters, to name a few.

“We want Connect+Develop to help deliver a dozen more Swiffer Dusters – really breakthrough innovations that change the marketplace, grows a category, and have consumers saying: ‘I need this product,’” Becker said.

Her job will be to further engage internal and external creative brains and talents to enhance the company’s innovation portfolio and accelerate delivery.
