For some people it’s the bath, others the shower, and still more a walk in the park. These are just some of the places where people believe they have their best ideas.
If none of these locations work for you, try some travel across the United States. USA Today has published a top ten list of locations to be inspired by.
They were drawn up following an interview with author Alec Foege on the occasion of his new book, The Tinkerers: The Amateurs, DIYers, and Inventors Who Make America Great.
The places listed in the article are sites associated with past and current ground-breaking companies, world beating inventions and inventors, and inspirational happenings.
The locations include:
Menlo Park, New Jersey – during a six-year period Thomas Edison patented approximately 400 inventions, including the phonograph. He was nicknamed the ‘Wizard of Menlo Park’. You can honor his genius and perhaps draw some inspiration from the small museum in the area.
Huntsville, Alabama – nicknamed ‘Rocket City’ this is where Wernher von Braun and NASA developed a number of innovations including the Saturn rocket series. The U.S. Space and Rocket Center is situated here which has more than 1,500 artefacts on show.
Austin, Texas – one of the reasons the Texas capital is featured in the article is the South by Southwest Festival, a celebration of music, film, and interactive technology. Every year it’s a hub of creative thinking.
Cambridge, Massachusetts – included because of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and its long history of innovations and achievements. Members of the public can tour the MIT campus and its museum.
