Plans for Tesla Museum is a Crowdfunding Hit

August 30, 2012 By IdeaConnection

Although known as the father of the electric age and a man of considerable accomplishments there is no museum wholly dedicated to Nikola Tesla in the United States.

That’s something that The Oatmeal creator Matthew Inman wants to change.  So he’s asking the crowd for help with his Let’s Build a Goddam Tesla Museum campaign.

Launched a little more than two weeks ago on Indiegogo it has been an outstanding success, raising more than a $1 million from 28,000 followers, easily passing Inman’s original goal of $850,000.

Inman wants a museum to be created at the site of Tesla’s final laboratory in Shoreham, New York. It’s known as Wardenclyffe and it was from here that the inventor, engineer and futurist attempted to build a tower to create wireless energy for the entire planet – the Wardenclyffe Tower Project. However, he could not complete his project as funding was withdrawn.

The land, laboratory and foundations are still very much there and recently came on the market. A non-profit is trying to buy it to turn it into a Nikola Tesla Museum but there is a competing offer on the table from someone who wants to create a retail establishment instead.

New York State agreed that if $850,000 was raised it would match the amount, so now the non-profit has more than $2 million to buy the property and set about creating its museum. If it goes ahead the area will be permanently protected as a historic site.

I am in total support of a Tesla Museum! Unfortunately I am unable to make a contribution at this time but would like to be placed on the update list.

Best Regards and Good Luck!
