Time's 50 Best Inventions of 2018

Time Magazine Best Inventions 1028Time magazine has published its list of the 50 best inventions of 2018 that are "making the world better, smarter and even a bit more fun".

The innovations cover a wide range of categories and were nominated by Time's editors and correspondents around the world, as well as through an online process. They were then evaluated according to such factors as originality, creativity, ambition, effectiveness and influence.  Among the top 50 inventions for this year are:

On-Demand Eyes for the Blind - a subscription service called Aira that enables users to stream live video of their surroundings to an on-demand agent.  The agents can then answer questions, describe objects or guide users through a location.

A Gravity-Defying Toolbox - Grypmat is a tool box that can hold up to a seventy-degree angle with no magnets. The high-friction material also protects surfaces and tools.

'Unbreakable' Pantyhose - a line of soft, comfortable pantyhose made of a type of fiber typically used in bulletproof vests and climbing equipment.

A Lid that Fits Most Pots - a universal lid made of silicon-coated stainless steel which has three different-size bottom lips, allowing it to fit a variety of pots and pans.

A Vacuum that Empties Itself - iRobot’s new Roomba i7+ is a robotic vacuum cleaner that empties itself. According to iRobot CEO Colin Angle, the innovation is designed to “free customers from every aspect of vacuuming, from start to finish, for weeks at a time.”
