Although agriculture is a dominant sector of the Ethiopian economy, providing over 50% of the country’s GDP and 80% of its employment, it is still largely dominated by subsistence crop and livestock farming. With rapid population growth causing severe land shortages and natural resource degradation, the time is right to focus on innovative solutions to increase agricultural productivity and profitability.
This year’s Social Innovation Challenge is centered around agriculture in the community of the Enemay Woreda (District), East Gojjam Zone, Amhara Region, Ethiopia.
