“LAND GENERATING RURAL HABITATION” (LGRH) : A NEW CONCEPT OF HABITATION

ABSTRACT:
The aim and objective of this article is to find out a means of ‘Accommodating more people on less land’ in the rural areas, specially in Bangladesh. In this country each and every square feet of land is fertile and productive. The growth of population and the requirement of vast land for their habitation are constantly decreasing the quantity of valuable land. In this age creation of land in mass scale is considered as an impossible proposition. Land may be created by filling water bodies. In our country however, water bodies are important source of fish. Also the cost of filling turns so high that such land need to be used for specialized purposes only.

In the rural areas the families usually live on large patch of land. In case alternate habitation in multiple levels can be provided for them, then the vast land used for habitation will be available for agricultural production. In this article we shall present a scheme in which the vast land now used for habitation or otherwise can be released for agro-production by providing safe alternate accommodation for the dwellers. Since the system, by all means, ‘generate’ land, we have named the scheme as “LAND GENERATING RURAL HABITATION” or LGRH.

ARTICLE TEXT:
BRIEF DESCRIPTION :
It is a scheme in which the rural families living on plots larger than (say) 15 katha will be allotted partially finished safe habitation on multiple levels, on condition that they would surrender their habitable plots to the government. The government would have to spend certain amount for the construction of the LGRH, and for practical reasons it may not be possible to recover the cost from the dwellers. However, even if the government constructs the LGRH complex from own source, the amount may be taken to be spent for creating ‘new land’, that would act as perennial source of agro-production for the country.
