Zulfiqar Ahmad
I am Dr. Zulfiqar Ahmad did my PhD in 2015, major Soil and Environmental Sciences from Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad Pakistan. My primary research interest is oriented to investigate, and solve complex environmental and health problems that affect humans in a rapidly changing urban environment. The central goal of my research is to advance current bioremediation and water treatment technologies using state-of-art microbial surfactants (biosurfactants) assisted techniques to promote their performance and cost-efficiency. I started my PhD in 2012 and completed course work at University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. Then, I moved to Departmental of Environment Sciences, University of California, Riverside USA for conducting my Ph.D. dissertation research under supervision of Prof. Dr. David Crowley. During my PhD research, I learned advanced techniques especially use of radiolabel isotopes for biodegradation studies. Additionally, I learned some recent state of art Metagenomics, GC, HPLC, and analytical techniques. I used multidisciplinary approach in my PhD research project. Application of mathematical in combination with Soft Computing Models (especially Artificial Neural Network) that proved very effective in factors optimization and biodegradation studies. My PhD research project includes isolation of Biosurfactant producing strain Klebseilla sp. Production of biosurfactant, purification/detection and structural characterization, assessment of produced biosurfactant under harsh environment and application of these fascinating green molecules in biodegradation of phenanthrene in soil and soil-water system. Based on my PhD research, I published a book chapter and several high impact factors research articles in reputable journals. One of our significant contribution is “Biosurfactant producing microorganisms for sustainable soil management: A review” in “Advances in Agronomy” a well reputed international journal. I developed microbial cell immobilized technology (MCIT) for the treatment of hydrocarbon contaminated sites which is eco-friendly and socially accepted. After completing my PhD, I worked as Assistant professor in Department of Environmental Sciences, PMAS Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, Pakistan. I supervised three Mphil students during their research work. Additionally, I won research project “Application of biosurfactant producing bacteria for the Detoxication of Hexavalent Chromium in soil” and developed microbial technology for tannery waste water treatment. The research output is undergo submission process. Currently, i am working a s Postdoc in State Key laboratory of Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Science, Wuhan University Hubei, China which is a prestigious institution in China. My Postdoc research project includes the application of biosurfactant producing bacteria in bio-treatment of heavy metals contaminated sediments in Yangtze river. The project aims at developing environmental friendly technology for the remediation of heavy metals contaminated sediments.
Being a Soil Scientist and Microbiologist, I am passionate and determined to develop innovative technological solution for industry partner specifically industrial waste water treatment.
