- Work in the research group involved a large amount of group problem solving as all researcher were working in similar areas. In this situation effective communication of ideas was essential and the time spent there greatly improved my ability to do so.
- During my final year at university I undertook a long term research project and succeeded in developing a novel gel based material which would change properties upon the application of an electrical current. It was an ill defined field of research and the work involved a large amount of literature work to draw together several different strands of the chemical sciences
