- I worked for MTN Nigeria as a consultant in the Sales & Distribution PMO. We had a problem of rising production and logistics costs brought about by increasing demand for lower denomination physical scratch cards (Nigeria is a largely prepaid market and lower denominations contribute 80% to overall sales).
Costs per card were constant irrespective of the value. This meant the ratio of cost to revenue would continue to rise the more we offered lower denomination cards.
Having reached the 'minimum' denomination of N200 per card I made a simple but effective suggestion that we produce '2 - in - 1' cards of the same size but could be split into 2 parts at the point of sale, each carrying a value of N100.
This idea was passed up all the way to the Sifiso (now group COO) and has saved MTN Nigeria several millions of Dollars in logistics costs while earning several times more in revenue as products are able to reach new demographics.
