John Hawkshead's Problem Solving Experience:
- I conceived my doctoral research largely without faculty input and applied for and received financial support from a pharmaceutical company through my own initiative. This research into fungal infections in pediatric oncology patients will be complete this year.
- I have participated in development and overseen implementation of new infection control efforts at the community hospital at which I have been employed full time, which has led to a marked reduction in rates of hospital acquired infections.
- I took over an epidemiology research project in pediatric orthopaedics that had been abandoned and saw the work through to completion of a manuscript that was eventually published in a respected peer reviewed journal.
