Marcia Pelchat's Problem Solving Skills:

  1. psychophysics, research design, statistics, product development

Marcia Pelchat's Problem Solving Experience:

  1. I pioneered the idea of single serving packs for prevention of impulsive eating. These are now an industry standard.

I developed a technique for the production of food cravings in the laboratory. This technique is widely used in scietific research.

I have shown that age-related chemosensory loss can make healthy ingredients more acceptable to the young elderly (a population with a great deal of disposible income). Thus, dietary suppliment beverages and salt substitutes can be marketed to this growing population.

I showed that the ability to detect the after-asparagus urine odor is in part due to differences in olfactory sensitivity to the malodor. We have identified a genetic marker that sits between two olfactory receptor genes that is correlated with ability to identify the aroma.
