Marlyn Biton's Problem Solving Experience:

  1. 1. Many small urban communities ("barangays") in our city are having problems about unemployed women. As an extension worker, I linked with their community heads ("barangay captain") and offered to help alleviate the problem. We held conferences and sought the sponsorship of some politicians. Upon getting the pledge and approval of government officials, I asked the women of the specific skills that they like to be trained on, specifically the livelihood skills, which I knew would make them earn additional income for their respective families. For now, together with my extension team, we have reached out to many women, and have taught them valuable lifelong skills like fashion jewelries making, meat processing, candle making, bag making, training preschool teachers, and many others.
