I have expertise in a wide variety of fields that helps me to grasp problems and develop novel solutions. In particular, I am a practicing pediatrician as well as a researcher in mitochondrial genetics, which gives me a working perspective from molecules to the physician's office. I am a highly creative thinker and love new challenges.

Richard Boles's Problem Solving Experience:
- - I have developed patented genetic testing for mitochondrial disorders and additional patents under review for the diagnosis of migraine, chronic fatigue syndrome, autism, sudden infant death syndrome, chronic pain disorders, and several other conditions.
- I have identified genetic changes that are important risk factors in the development of the above listed conditions, and others.
- I have developed a new therapeutic regiment for the treatment of cyclic vomiting syndrome, and tested it as being superior to the previous standard treatment.
- I have co-authored clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of cyclic vomiting syndrome.
- I have developed a novel program for the evaluation of patients with multiple functional conditions of possible mitochondrial etiology and successfully implemented it at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.
- I have co-authored clinical care protocols, including most recently for metabolic patients undergoing anesthesia.
