Richard Scott
I am a practical engineer. I innovate and adapt to find both containment and permanent solutions to a broad range of problems. I believe that problem resolution is driven by the ability to ask the right questions that will lead the investigation to the solution.

Areas Richard Scott is Knowledgeable in:

Complex processing equipment (e.g. microprocessor / PC controlled, mechanical, robotic, electrical, electronic, heating, cooling, pneumatics, high voltage, RF, gases, chemicals, etc).
Interested in any kind of practical physics based problem.

Techniques Richard Scott Uses:

8D, FMEA, 5 Whys, Comparative methods, Brainstorming, Lateral thinking, Creative thinking & visualisation, Direct Diagnosis (e.g. half-split troubleshooting, etc), research & study, intuition and "Gut-feel" (experience).

Richard Scott's Problem Solving Skills:

  1. Engineering - Semiconductor processing equipment (Mechatronics), plant & facilities, DAQ S/W & H/W
  2. Diagnostic - Six Sigma, diagnostic software, advanced fault diagnosis, DAQ systems
  3. Industrial Engineering - 5s, Lean, Kaizen,
  4. Electrical Engineering - Electrical, Electronics and Control systems
  5. Manufacturing - KPIs, OEE, Engineering Support, Production logistics, Supply Management
  6. Mechanical Engineering - Rotating machinery, Facilities, Complex Assemblies
  7. Vacuum Science - Vacuum systems and control (diaphragm to turbomolecular, valves to manipulators)
  8. Tools - Custom mechanical tooling, custom diagnostic tools (DAQ, Electronics)
  9. Robotics - Stepping systems, Servo-encoder systems, precision motion systems

Richard Scott's Problem Solving Experience:

  1. - Resolved complex processing equipment issues utilizing advanced diagnostic skills and collaboration with system experts.
  2. - Crazy-simple but describes my dogged determination to fix any kind of problem. Using a Tape/Label printer, I needed to print clear text on a black background (so my text would be visible when backlit on a warning indicator). Contacting the manufacturer I was told it wasn't possible (they didn't have an invert function or a clear on black tape). I found that it was possible to import bitmaps into the printer. So I created my text, inverted the colours and downloaded it to the printer. Where there's a will, there's a way....
  3. - Developed custom mechanical tools for removal and refurbishment of mechanical sub-assemblies (mechanical gate, vacuum cup spinner).
  4. - Executed multiple outsourcing / re-engineering projects to reduce cost of ownership on consumable parts and services (ceramic clamp $250Kpa, reduce sub-assembly repair by $55Kpa).
  5. - Run improvement teams and projects as diverse as resolving out of control processes, through productivity improvements to selection and logistical improvement on repair strategies or business improvements.
  6. - Developed custom DAQ system to collect essential process data (replacing paper process recorders).
