Stephen Lafferty's Training:

Many years of experience in the profession of architecture and my extra-curricular activities have provided my training:
a) During college, I served as chairperson several volunteer organizations, one of which was the Union Program Council, which put on the major concerts, minor concerts, Winter Break/Spring Break trips and similar activities. This organization, in particular, provided significant leadership and facilitator training - particularly as it relates to volunteer organizations.
b) As a licensed Architect, I have been very involved in the leadership of the American Institute of Architects. Serving in various positions, including President of our local chapter of over 500 members provided numerous opportunities for structured training as well as actual opportunities to lead teams and committees.
c) Part of the responsibility as the Architect of any building of significance involves being the facilitator of a team of professionals. I have over 20 years as a licensed architect and have worked on projects ranging from $5,000 to over $500 Million, involving teams of all sizes and complexities.
d) Not only do I hold licenses as an Architect and an Interior Designer, but I also hold the international certification as a Project Management Professional. In order to obtain this certification, I passed a multi-section test, part of which focused on the skills required to lead a project team and facilitate meetings or interactions between team members.
e) Because I saw the lack of training that many in the architecture, engineering and IT fields receive in the area of Project Management, until they are "thrown into the fire," I authored a simple, hands-on book entitled "Project Management @ NetSpeed," many sections of which focused on the roles and skills as a facitator.

Stephen Lafferty's Experience with Online Groups:

a) During my tenure at an architectural firm that specializes in senior housing & healthcare, we founded a collaborative strategic partnership of six architectural firms who worked together to improve the designs, the environments, and the production of architecture for this specialty. I served as Director of Operations for the group, bringing together the Operations Managers for these six firms that led the industry, and we worked online to schedule staffing (resource levelling among the firm), to work on Projects together, to develop standards and protocols, and to trouble-shoot processes.
b) I have served on a few committees, in varying roles (participant, reviewer, or leader) in which various standards have been developed. One standard resulted in a significant change to the state-wide Building Code, one became the National CAD Standard, and the Practice Standard for Scheduling has been adopted by ANSI/ISO as the only industry standard on the subject of Project Scheduling.
